Friendship Link

The world is coming to Aberdeen. As we approach the start of classes at RGU and Aberdeen Uni. we are reminded that among the student body are thousands who hail from the four corners and beyond of our global village. As Christians we have the privilege and duty of opening our homes and lives to those who are strangers amongst us.

But that can be difficult. Where do we start? How can we meet our international visitors? ‘Friends International' is a Christian ministry that seeks to show love and support to international students and one of the ways is through a Friendship Link programme. The scheme involves linking students who have expressed a desire to be involved with volunteer host families. The families then invite the students to their home for a meal or other activity. Families are encouraged to meet up with their allocated student (s) at least once a term, but can do so more regularly if they wish.

Last year we were disappointed in the lack of response on the part of the congregation ... the grand total of one family offering to participate! I reckon we could easily double that!

Ask the minister for a form.

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.' (Heb 13:2)
