A Battle over Britain

As the weekend approached the weather forecasts were taking on a peculiarly dramatic edge. We were excitedly informed that what awaited us was dependant on a battle of the weather fronts. From glacial continental Europe a cold front was on a collision course with a warm (very loosely defined!) front from the Atlantic. The outcome of the ensuing battle was, we were assured, impossible to forecast. That said it seemed to be generally agreed that the nasty cold front was likely to have the upper hand!
Another, unseen, battle rages over Britain. The Kingdom of Darkness (yes… it does exist) is battling with the Kingdom of Light, and as we appear to be heading in the direction of a Narnia like scenario of ‘always winter and never Christmas’ darkness would seem to be in the ascendance. The nasty cold front always has the upper hand?
Appearances deceive. Darkness may win a few battles but the one who described himself as the ‘light of the world’ has already won the war. On the cross Jesus confronted and conquered the forces of darkness and ‘made a public spectacle of them’. It only remains for us, with the psalmist, to cry out…
‘Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.’
And not only on us but on our nation also.

Tea and Coffee: Tea, coffee and biscuits are served downstairs in the hall after the evening service. Everyone is very welcome to come downstairs and join us for this.

FC Youth Conference: The youth conference is a weekend of fun and fellowship for anyone between the ages of 16-30. A time to share God's word, join in praise, meet old faces, greet new ones and laugh a lot along the way! The Conference will take place at Lendrick Muir the weekend of 16th-18th March 2012. Our Topic is “Run the Race with Endurance!”

Youth Fellowship – 8:00pm Sunday
YF is at the Smith's house after the evening service. We will be starting our topic for this term, The Five Points of Calvinism. The talk this week is on Total Depravity and the speaker is Jonathan Worthington. Murdo Morrison will be organising lifts.

'Awesome Party" - Holiday Club 25th February
The annual February Holiday Club takes place on Sat. 25th February at the YMCA from 4-6pm. This is open to all Primary children.
Any help to run this event would be much appreciated. It would only take up half your Saturday afternoon so please consider lending a hand - the kids love it!

There will be a planning meeting on Monday 6th Feb. at the YMCA at 7.30 to plan the activities of the club so it would be good if any volunteers could attend this meeting - again it's just a short time together (usually over in less than an hour).  If you can help out please speak to Jonathan, Cassia or Rachel or alternatively you can email Rosie McKie ( This email address is being protected from spambots.
