‘How's the dressing room?'

Mark McGhee arrived as the returning Saviour. The good old days were soon to return to Pittodrie. None of the ‘mediocrity' of the fourth place finishes under Calderwood. ‘Come back Jimmy all is forgiven' may well be the sentiment of many.

What's gone wrong? I'm no pundit but I am intrigued to hear a recurring theory... ‘McGhee has lost the dressing room'. The argument is that the boss no longer enjoys the confidence of the players; they are no longer willing to fight for the manager. The raw talent is there but not the motivation. At whose door do we lay the blame? The manager or the players? Take your pick.

As Christians we too are part of a team whose ‘performance' is fundamentally related to the confidence we enjoy in our boss. If we are persuaded as to his commitment to his ‘players' and his capacity to lead us to victory then we will perform to the utmost of our ability and fight in the expectation of victory and, indeed, with the swagger of champions.

Do we? If we don't who is to blame? Not our ‘boss' or head. Jesus Christ is flawless. His wisdom beyond compare. His power absolute. His commitment to his team - each one of us - unshakeable.

Do we believe that? If we do let us demonstrate our confidence in the boss by the manner in which we fight for him. If the Lord is leading us, who can stand against us?

Spring Conference: This year's annual Free Church Spring Conference will be held from 9th to 11th April at the Aviemore Inn. This year we are delighted to have Prof John L. MacKay and Rev. David MacPherson as our speakers. David and Martha MacPherson will also be leading the Missionary focus. A conference like this gives us the chance to meet people from churches all over the country - not necessarily "Free" - while enjoying times of praise and discussions as well as our main speakers. It is also an ideal opportunity for those who are perhaps getting a bit old for the Youth Conference to move on - come and give us your support!

The hotel usually gives us our own area of the dining room and a meeting room to hold the talks in; and there is plenty of time for fellowship over tea and coffee in comfortable surroundings. Saturday afternoon is always kept free so you can enjoy the Resort's facilities or visit the surrounding area.

The cost of the Conference includes full board - you won't even have to pay for a cup of tea or coffee - and full use of the Resort's Leisure facilities.

An advert and booking form for the conference was in the January Record and will also be in the February edition.
